Hi, I’m Julie Miller.

Certified Functional Health and Life Coach, Transformational Coach, and Owner of Serenity Functional Health Coaching.

I think it is important for you to understand that I have been where you are at.  We all have a story.  A story that drives my passion to help identify what caused me to feel out of sorts or even abnormal at times.  A story to drive a passion to help others identify the interconnectedness in their body and how to remove the dis-ease.

My story started when I was a little girl.  Growing up, I was a very sick child.  I had a lot of digestive issues including nausea, vomiting, bloating, extreme fatigue, extreme swollen eyes and severe pitted edema.  I remember eating 4 fast food meals that my Grandma so graciously bought me and not even feeling full.  From about 3rd grade through 9th grade, my parents took me to several of the top GI specialists in the nation.  They tried all sorts of diets and medications, none of which helped me feel any better.  After having a intestinal biopsy, they wanted to “label” me with a disease and place a subclavian line in my shoulder so I would never eat again.  What?  At the time, I didn’t even realize what this meant.  This was a very scary thing for me to think about.

It took so many years before any doctor could identify what might be going on in my health.  Imagine how scared my parents must have felt.  So after 7 long years of no real answers, imagine how I felt as a freshmen in high school, who had been a very competitive athlete, now weighing a measly 85 lbs. (that is smaller than my youngest when he was 11 years old) and was told I would never eat again nor could I play sports.  I was devastated.

Luckily, a friend of my grandma told us about a holistic allergy specialist in LaCrosse, WI.  People came from all over the world to visit these doctors.  This practice does their own comprehensive R.A.S.T blood testing, skin tests, and sublingual testing and dive down into the root cause of your issues.

I learned about rotational diets and how to completely avoid milk, wheat, eggs, beef, and red food dye.  I used to dream about cheese, ice cream, and pizza.  I took sublingual drops for my allergens to help build up my immunity.  This worked for quite some time and after having my first son, I was able to eat all my offenders again.  In reality, my immune system had changed.

It wasn’t until I had moved to Missouri in 1996, I started suffering miserably from seasonal allergies.  So I had to return to the practice in my 30’s to get re-evaluated.  I learned as I aged, my symptoms changed from the digestive issues to the more sinus/bronchitis, extreme itching, and hives.  This is when I started educating myself on these food and seasonal allergies.  I was happy to share my story with anyone as if I could help just one person not go through what I did, it was worth it.

Fast forward to November 2014, a friend of mine (who had gotten thyroid cancer) educated me about the toxins I was unknowingly using every day in my home, on my body, and on my children.  I had that “aha” moment when I realized the products (house cleaners, laundry products, shampoo, conditioner, makeup, etc.) I was using on my own body or in my house were poisoning me and making me sick.  After I cleared out my house and learned about alternative products, I was able to rid myself of all allergy medicine that I have taken on a daily basis for the last 17 years.  Something my allergist was unable to do I feel because of the non-existence of product ingredient labeling, he truly did not know what to test me for.

If you can rid the toxins in your home, your body is more likely to fight the allergens that affect you every day.

This really got me thinking about the amount of cancer, allergies, and endocrine disorders that are in this world today.  So I followed my passion to help those who want to learn more. I furthered my own education and became a certified health and life coach from the Institute of Nutritional Leadership (with Dr. Josh Axe) and Health Coach Institute.

I am a 53-year-old Mom of 4 wonderful sons and a loving, supportive husband.  I started my career as a Radiologic Technologist and Radiation Therapist which I did for 4 years.  In that experience, I learned a lot about the body and health as well as cancer and its various traditional treatments.  I then moved onto the computer world where I learned to support and design healthcare software for one of the top companies.

As I’ve gotten older, I started to look back at my old childhood records to discover testing that was not done and how my knowledge of nutrition and the body as a whole relates to the dis-ease I experienced.
